Sail Magazine considers the Valiant 40 to be one of the boats with the most positive impact on sailing in the USA, so much so that it has been inducted into its "Hall of Fame" boats. Introduced in the mid-70s, it was immediately considered a "performance cruiser", a status that was consolidated in the following decades.
The Valiant 40 launched the career of the young Bob Perry, who was convinced that cruising boats should not be slow to be safe and comfortable. In plan, the Valiant 40 has a very traditional shape. In profile, above the waterline, the appearance is a combination of old and new. Below the waterline, the story is very different. The high prismatic coefficient, the low wetted surface, the low displacement to length ratio and the long waterline are reminiscent of the racing boats of the early 70s". Over the years, the boat has sailed all the seas of the globe with many circumnavigations to its credit. The Valiant 40 was in production until the early 2000s as a semi-custom construction and, still today, it is a must in the USA for those who want nautical skills, sailing skills and classic shapes.
