I am selling my sailboat CARENA 38DS, a very beautiful and rare motorsailer, built in Holland by the renowned shipyard PORSIUS in 1989. The hull and the deck are made of steel. The draft is 1.80m.
History of the Porsius Shipyard
The Porsius shipyard, located in Amsterdam, is renowned for the construction of high-quality steel boats. Founded in the 1970s, the shipyard has gained an excellent reputation for its robust and well-designed boats, often based on plans by renowned architects such as M. Lemstra. Boats built by Porsius are known for their durability and ability to sail in difficult conditions, making them highly prized among experienced sailors.
History of the Carena 38DS Model
The Carena 38DS is an iconic model designed by naval architect M. Lemstra and built by the Porsius shipyard. Introduced in the 1980s, this model quickly gained popularity thanks to its unique combination of performance and comfort. The Carena 38DS was designed for long cruises and offshore sailing, offering exceptional stability and large storage capacity. Its steel construction and teak finishes make it both robust and elegant.
The deck is covered with solid teak of very good quality. This CARENA 38DS has a large forecabin, a head with shower and marine toilet, a U-shaped galley with a 3-burner stove + stainless steel oven, a refrigerator, and a stainless steel double sink.
The deck saloon offers a 360° view, the saloon can be transformed into a large double berth. The CARENA 38DS has two helms: one sheltered in the saloon and one exterior.
The VOLVO engine of 60hp is from 2022 and has only 250 hours. The gearbox is new as well as the folding 4-blade MAXPROP propeller. This engine replacement increased the cruising speed of the CARENA 38DS by 2 knots (7.50 knots at 2000 rpm).
For dock maneuvers, a powerful bow thruster greatly facilitates the boat's evolution. The standing rigging is less than 10 years old and is made of monotoron DYFORM (more performant cable), the mainsail and genoa are new (purchased in 2022 and used for the first time in 2024), the spinnaker is in new condition.
A furling staysail allows the use of the trysail. An self-tailing winch is installed. The windlass is manual, but the electrical wiring is installed to fit an electric windlass.
The boat's energy and engine power are provided by 4 batteries of 110 AH with slow discharge, the bow thruster has 2 OPTIMA batteries and a new battery charger from 2025. The main battery charger is a VICTRON with a 12v/220v converter. A VICTRON battery monitor manages the entire battery bank including 3 new batteries from 2025.
The electronics are recent:
Exterior Helm – GPS/CHARTPLOTTER RAYMARINE AXIOM 9 (2020) with AIS and bow camera, multifunction display GARMIN for the log/speedo-sounder-wind vane anemometer, and display GARMIN for the autopilot (hydraulic power unit).
Interior Helm – VHF ICOM ICM 506 AIS, GPS/CHARTPLOTTER GARMIN and radio with interior and exterior speakers.
For comfort, this CARENA 38DS has a EBERSPACHER heating with 2 outlets, hot and cold pressurized water with a 250 L tank, a stern platform allowing access to the dinghy WORLD TRAVEL 2.35 and YAMAHA F2.5 engine.
This CARENA 38DS is available immediately, the 2025 hull cleaning is done, the engine maintenance is up to date. Video available.
