At 52.55 metres long, the Doña Francisca has an impressive seven-metre bowsprit. Built at the Buquebus shipyard in Uruguay and launched in 2014, it is the work of the famous naval architect Javier Soto Acebal, a native of the Río de la Plata. The objective was clear: a sailboat with a classic spirit, but benefiting from the most modern naval technologies.
The result is a ship of contrasts. On the outside, its lines respect the maritime tradition of the early twentieth century and evoke a period boat. Yet, underneath this classic appearance lies a feat of engineering: a hull and rigging made entirely of carbon fiber, giving it extraordinary lightness and strength given its size and displacement of 230 tons.
Its two-masted rig is impressive: the mainmast rises to almost 50 metres above the waterline, while the foremast rises to 46 metres. Added to this is a set of high-tech sails that makes all the difference. The superyacht boasts nearly 2,000 square meters of sail area once all sails are out. The mainsail alone measures 407 m², complemented by a staysail, genoa and jib. This arsenal is further reinforced by a 1,032 m² asymmetrical spinnaker and a 55 m² tormentin, ready to face all sea conditions.
These modern equipment allow a sailboat of this size, 52 meters long, to have a relatively small crew.
The interior of the ship is a tribute to tradition. Mahogany and chestnut wood, elegant lounges, seven cabins that can accommodate up to fourteen people, an office and a laundry room create an atmosphere that transports you to the last century.
