"Designed in 1965 for Chris Craft, one of the first shipyards in the world to build fiberglass boats in series, the Apache 37 was able to take advantage of many cunning already tested by Olin Stephens on Intrepid (S&S 1834 design, victorious for two editions of the America's Cup, 1967 and 1970).
Thus the Apache 37 already in the 60s was born with skeg and separate rudder, which compared to the traditional long keel had the advantage of greatly decreasing the turbulence of the wake and with a hull with a decidedly light displacement.
Although it looks more like a pure crossboat than a thoroughbred regatta, the Apache has respectable speeding skills, and like many creatures born from the unsurpassed and unsurpassed genius of Olin Stephens, who personally cared for the trials in the tank, the Apache 37 has qualities in the bolina gaits for the era difficult to match.
However, we should not be misled by the sailing qualities of the Apache, because the interiors offer spaces that at the time were decidedly unusual and capable of housing a whole family in great comfort (2-4)."
