When the Riviera 51 Open Flybridge was launched at the 2003 Sydney International Boat Show, it was an instant success, with sales of over 10 boats during the six days of the show.
The sales success was quickly followed by a prestigious award: the Australian Marine Industry's Cruiser of the Year.
The boat offered its owners a large and comfortable L-shaped salon in the aft district on the left, in front of an entertainment unit that included TV, sound system, refrigerator and wine fridge. A large C-shaped dinette around a polished wooden table was located immediately in the bow of the entertainment unit, facing the kitchen with a recessed two-burner hob, convection microwave, drawer refrigerators, and recessed and shaped sink.
The deck of the lodgings offered two cabins and a bunk cabin on board. The master cabin was located on starboard, half ship, with a queen double bed, a built-in wardrobe and a private bathroom. A VIP guest cabin in the bow shared a second bathroom with the bunk cabin.
The flybridge reflected the size of the boat, with the stern rudder positioned to starboard and a seat for the half-ship travel companion. A U-shaped lounge around a large fiberglass table was located immediately at the bow of the rudder, while a second sitting room was located along the left side, at the bow of a wet bar.
The media around the world were enthusiastic about it. The boat appeared on the cover of Modern Boating and on the covers of the Australian and New Zealand editions of Trade-a-Boat. It has been reviewed in Italy, Spain, the Middle East, Japan, Thailand, the United States, New Zealand and Australia.
Trade-a-Boat New Zealand reviewer wrote: "It's hard to imagine how a designer can design a more beautiful hull.
"The real beauty of the boat lies in its ability to meet the myriad needs of cruising with an extended family."
Australian magazine Club Marine said: "Entering the salon you are enveloped by the opulence and imperiousness of the boat."
Siam Marine described it as an "easy to use and elegant boat".
